Buildings & Homesteads

The POA for your dreams to come true

At HLR, after obtaining the Cochise County Owner Builder Optout Permit, many go on to build homes and other structures (such as garage, sheds, green houses, guest houses) using non-conventional building methods.

The HLR POA currently has one Earthships in-progress, one compacted earth-bag homes that is in progress, one rammed earth house already built, a barndominium, a couple planned Elon Musk Boxable tiny houses, and a planned container home.    Yea!   You see,  this is the place for your dream home, however you want to build it.

Whether it is Adobe and Pueblo houses, stucco, or earthships, small, large homes, or mansions, you will find them all here!

If you want to enjoy desert living in peace, in a place closer to the skies, close to being heaven on earth, where you enjoy privacy, then you will be among friends here!

Homesteading

Many owners are engaged in a variety of the following: Homesteading, animal husbandry, gardening, and Permaculture practices. You will find Cattle roaming the roads (a rural Arizona norm), horses, goat pens, chickens, ducks, rabbits, gardening, green houses, water recycling, composting, rain collection, water wells, lots of solar power and the off-grid lifestyle. Grid power is also available at some lots, so you don’t need to be off-grid, unless you want that.

This POA has had lax enforcement, no enforcement, and many waivers issued over the recent years.  This makes High Lonesome Ranch POA a unique oasis in the Chiricahua Desert.

It is truly an oasis here, we get an average of 11 inches of rain a year!     2021 and 2022 had very active monsoons and we collected thousands of gallons of rain water!   Swales, permaculture, grapes, herbs, evergreens, and a wide array of desert vegetation exist here.

Some lots have very accessible ground water which is rare in Arizona making this slice of heaven a unique area.  Water is life!

In some areas, you find DSL internet, electricity, line of sight internet, and StarLink.  Some lots are off-grid, others are on-grid.

Here is a secret:  Many of this ranch happens to have excellent ground water, that is not too deep, something that is priceless for your homesteading dreams, and a treasure in the desert!

Truly, this Ranch is a well-hidden secret of Cochise County!   Hurry and get your acreage here!  I am on a mission of spreading these secrets, so we can get more good neighbors here.

Reputation

Good or bad?

If you heard negative stories about HLR, there is some truth to that, but also lots of myth.

This POA is unique because it has a history of non-enforcement and many waivers granted setting a trend.

Most the time, our roads are in a very good condition compared to other POAs and other dirt roads.  Gleason road is your way in and out of the Ranch. It is a stunning paved winding road overlooking mountains, hills, grasslands and absolutely stunning views!
